Jacob Ireri on Empowering Deaf Society in Kenya

Jacob Ireri, a truly innovative social justice leader, is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Deaf Empowerment Society of Kenya (DESK), a nongovernmental organization based in Kenya that seeks to advance the empowerment and independence of deaf people. In 2021, Jacob Ireri received the American Express Leadership Academy Alumni Award, which honors an outstanding leader who demonstrates strong leadership while continually impacting his or her community. Participating in the American Express Global Leadership Academy helped Jacob grow and develop as a leader, and be able to inspire and empower people who are deaf or hearing-imparied in his community.
