Emily Marks on Dreaming Our Culture Forward with Live Arts
Emily Marks is the director of Lionheart Live Arts and a Programmer at The Memphis Public Library, Historic Cossitt Branch. In both roles, she aims to amplify the work of community-based artists and co-create projects with youth and the community to share truths, explore possibilities, and dream our culture forward. Emily is also the founder of Girls Rock Austin, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering girls through music creation and performance. She has built a national reputation for reinvigorating performance for youth and communities in adventurous new formats. Emily is humbled to receive the Kennedy Center Citizen Artist Award and Fellowship for artistic innovation and advocacy success in creating safer and inclusive workplaces for artists and young people.
